February 15, 2008

Hey all,

It's good to know that you enjoyed class and found it beneficial.  The only question that surfaced this week is a good one.   You address it, and I'll address it at a later day after I get some of your opinions.

1) How does a teacher know what teaching style is best for his/her class?

Take a few minutes and go back to last week's posts.  There were some great questions that no one addressed.......come on - step up and voice your opinions.

Have a relaxing and fun weekend and a learning filled week.

In order for a teacher to know what teaching styles best work in the class is to try different styles. If lecturing doesn't work, try providing the important topics and have the students take notes from an overhead/powerpoint, use assignments that make the students research the topic, or provide some type of lab (hands on) pertaining to the topics. It all falls back on being able to adjust as you go.

I think it depends a lot of the students you have in your classroom. In general though, I feel like hands-on activities motivate more learning vs. lecture.

I agree with Jocelyn. I think your teaching styles have to be the best for the students so you have to teach the best method to get the best results from the students.

I think that in order to find out what method works best for your students, you are going to need to try as many styles as possible and get a reaction from your students and yourself. There is not going to be a set method that will work for every students.
